Ukip suspends 'racist homophobe' councillor days after his election

NEWLY elected Ukip councillor Dave Small was suspended by his party yesterday after being accused of racism and homophobia.

Mr Small was elected to Redditch Borough Council in last Thursday’s local elections — but now faces claims he called African migrants “scroungers” on Facebook.

The Facebook page is also reported to have contained references to TV sports presenter Clare Balding and pop star Elton John as “perverts” because of their sexuality, although it has now been taken off the web.

Ukip leader Nigel Farage has previously stated that people should “worry” if Romanians move in on their road but insists that his party is not racist.

The far-right party, which topped the European elections last week, said Mr Small had been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing.

He will not face action from the council itself since the alleged remarks were made before he was election.
