Stoke boss Mark Hughes fears his side's confidence could be eroded if their struggles in front of goal continue.

The Potters failed to find the net for a third Premier League game in succession as they played out a goalless draw with West Brom at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

They have struck just four times all season and, although they at least arrested a run of three successive defeats, they have not won in the top-flight since August.

Hughes said: "In every game we have played we have created chances, but haven't converted them.

"The longer that goes on the more confidence we will lose. It is important we start scoring and start converting what we are creating."

Stoke had few clear-cut chances in a largely uninspiring clash against the Baggies.

Stephen Ireland spurned the best of them when he blazed a first-time shot over the bar on a quick counter-attack.

Charlie Adam also forced Boaz Myhill to scramble back and palm over with an opportunistic and well-struck effort from the halfway line.

But the hosts also rode their luck and were reprieved when Adam appeared to trip Youssouf Mulumbu in the penalty area.

Stephane Sessegnon also had two good opportunities, including one in the last minute after a mazy run, and created another for Morgan Amalfitano — but each time Asmir Begovic saved.

Stoke defender Erik Pieters said: "If you want to look at it in a positive way we got a point, but we have to thank Asmir for saving that last chance.

"He did that twice. You do it as a team, but Asmir was really important for us.

"We had two or three good chances and they had the same.

"It could have been 0-0 or 1-1. In the end you have to be happy with one point. We had a clean sheet and that was important for us.

"We didn't get the confidence out of this game, we didn't get the second half we wanted, but we didn't lose and that is the important thing."

West Brom also looked at the result positively as it extended their unbeaten run of games, which has included victory over Manchester United and a draw with Arsenal, to five.

Defender Billy Jones felt the Baggies were unlucky to come up against a keeper in Begovic, who went into the game in confidence after helping Bosnia reach the World Cup, in such form.

Jones said: "The Britannia is a tough place to come and we have got to look at it as a point in the right direction.

"The main thing is the team performance was good. We are showing that consistency now, five unbeaten.

"We played some good football at times and created enough chances to win the game, but Begovic was in great form.

"I think he seemed to be saving everything. That was unfortunate for us. I imagined qualifying for a World Cup he was going to be buzzing.

"We caught him in a great vein of form. He was on top of his game and made some great saves."

Jones sees no reason why West Brom cannot prolong their good run at Liverpool next week.

The 26-year-old said: "We are performing well as a team. We are looking strong going forward and are organised in defence and that breeds confidence throughout the team.

"I feel with the results we have got against the so-called top four — we won at Old Trafford and a good point against Arsenal — that we believe we can go and get something at Liverpool."
