Summer of Heroes: A grand London reader

ANOTHER day, another astonishing donation.

Yesterday, we opened the mail from a north London reader. Inside was a cheque for £1,000.

With it was a message which said: “Our voice must be heard, with the Morning Star.”

Why did she do it? Here’s why.

In today’s Morning Star you will read elections analysis you won’t find in any other national newspaper. It includes news that in Norfolk, the Tories are talking to Ukip about a coalition to run the county council.

That ominous news bodes ill for our country especially if desperate Dave Cameron were to see it as a way of clinging to power in 2015. And it exposes in an instant the Ukip lie that it is anti-Establishment.

You will find pages of insight into talks between Unite and PCS on a possible merger, foreign news coverage shunned by other newspapers and sports news with a political edge that sets the agenda.

Which other newspaper really, truly, gives a damn whether 1,000 workers have died building stadiums in a country where leaders “encouraged” Sepp Blatter to stage a World Cup in the unbearable heat of their summer? Only the Morning Star.

That’s why we received £10 from Northumberland from a supporter who “wished it were £1,000” and £100 from Swansea with the message “keep up the fight.”

All together you’ve raised £3,626 in a few days.

Our readers and supporters are extraordinary. The Morning Star is extraordinary. Together we will never allow it to die.

SUMMER OF HEROES ROLL OF HONOUR: £1,000 from London N8, £20 from Derbyshire, £30 from Wales, £10, from Northumberland, £50 from Lancashire, £100 online and £81 from standing orders, making a total of £1,291.
