You've got to admire a band like The Boxer Rebellion. They've been around for over 10 years, released four studio albums and had their tracks played throughout various popular US TV shows and films, yet they've never really generated the popularity over here they've arguably deserved.

Nevertheless here they are back on stage playing their first headline show in London for two years and the Forum is the perfect place - not too huge, not too cramped - for them to showcase their relatively new album Promises as well as belt out a few of the old favourites for the fans.

There's nothing showy about these post-punk indie rockers as they almost politely make their entrance, quietly saying their hellos. But the mood quickly changes as they burst open their set with the popular catchy rock track Step Out Of the Car.

A good choice as it immediately gets the mild crowd moving. Lead singer Nathan Nicholson woos the audience with his deliciously rich vocals, with Todd Howe blasting out juicy guitar riffs.

Atmospheric electro-indie tune Diamonds is a wonderful track, slow but with a decent hand-clapping beat.

Emotive New York, while not a track that's gonna get the crowd jumping up on stage, is a memorable enough to satisfy their more dedicated fans.

Although there's no denying they're musically solid and deserve recognition over and above "that band on the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack," I can't help feeling there wasn't enough spark on stage.

All in all, strong vocals, beautifully crafted riffs, tight melodies and no beer spillage. Not a bad night out at all.
