On a sunny autumn afternoon in Glasgow, Rangers continued their 100 per cent start to the league campaign with an absolute drubbing of Stenhousemuir.

The Warriors of Stenhousemuir failed to live up to their nickname as they gifted goal after goal to a Rangers team with much more fluency and aggression than that of last season.

Jon Daly scored after three minutes, and went on to score four, and there were also strikes from Lee Wallace, Andy Little, David Templeton and Bilel Moshni, the latter a spectacular overhead kick that would have attracted more attention had the game not long since been dead and buried as a contest.

The afternoon, however, can’t have been as comfortable for the Rangers board of directors who were the target of some very direct and vociferous abuse from a significant proportion of the 43,877 in attendance.

A leaflet circulated in advance of the match detailed yet more revelations concerning the club’s financial plight and the fans made their feelings about the current Ibrox boardroom very clear.

In contrast, midfielder Ian Black was warmly received by the Rangers fans on his return from suspension for breaching SFA rules on gambling on football matches.

After the match, Rangers boss Ally McCoist distanced himself from the protests, choosing to focus on his team’s new found ability to keep pushing forward to rack up goals after going ahead early on.

One has to feel that other League One teams might suffer a similar fate to Stenhousemuir at Ibrox this season.
