Plaid Cymru's Leanne Wood to tell Bank of England governor Mark Carney to help rebalance Britain's wealth

PLAID Cymru leader Leanne Wood will press her party’s case for a rebalanced British economy in a meeting with Bank of England governor Mark Carney today.

She will urge Mr Carney to “learn the lessons of the financial crisis” and ensure that investment goes beyond the south-east’s financial sector to manufacturing across Britain.

The meeting comes after Ms Wood used her party conference speech on Saturday to propose a “legal duty” for ministers to ensure that all parts of Britain receive the same investment per person.

And she will challenge Mr Carney to strengthen Wales’s voice within the Bank.

“An economic rebalancing of Britain, alongside a political rebalancing, isn’t just desirable, it’s essential,” she said yesterday. “The Bank of England is the central bank for the entire UK and its decisions are of great importance to Wales.”

Party leaders will also meet Iceland’s ambassador to Britain to hear about its recovery from the economic crisis.
