GAY, lesbian, bi and trans trade unionists “rejected” the hatred they said had been provoked by the EU referendum yesterday as they opened the second day of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) LGBT conference.
After finding out that Britain is set to leave the European Union, delegates to this year’s conference moved an emergency motion on the referendum.
The document was passed unopposed as the first act of the day.
Speaking on the results, TUC LGBT committee chair Maria Exall said: “We reject the politics of hate stoked by this referendum.”
The document included an instruction on the committee to “lead a unified campaign to defend hard-won LGBT rights in Britain and to actively participate in the TUC’s campaign to ensure working people do not pay the price of the result.”
