MORE offshore workers are set to consider strike action as GMB officials seek permission from the union’s Scottish committee to ballot members.
As reported in yesterday’s Star, members of sister offshore union Unite are set to decide on a series of industrial action proposals up to and including walkouts.
GMB officer John Kelly blasted the “blatant opportunism” of oil companies taking advantage of the collapse in the global oil price to force through job cuts and changes to terms.
“There are major concerns over the proposed changes to shift rotas and the health and safety implications that could follow from a major change,” he said.
“GMB believes that any changes to rotas could have a serious impact on the safety of those working offshore and we urge the companies to rethink the proposals.”
Members at firms covered by the Offshore Contractors Association agreement would be affected.
