THE US and Japanese militaries conducted provocative naval exercises yesterday as President Donald Trump threatened again to annihilate North Korea, and the dynastic regime responded by calling him “deranged.”
It followed Mr Trump’s expansion of sanctions against the North — already under an extremely broad embargo — and a UN speech threatening to “totally destroy” the country the US flattened in the early 1950s.
Hereditary North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un in turn threatened to test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean.
China, North Korea’s neighbour and closest ally, was forced to once again demand that the hotheads on either side cool it.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the US must stick to promises of non-aggression towards the North and urged the Koreans “not to go further along a dangerous direction.”
“No matter the difficulties we face, China will always persist in the goal of denuclearising the peninsula, in moving towards talks,” Mr Wang said.
