Scottish nationalist MP calls for Unite talks

Remarks come after Len McCluskey signals Labour support could end

A Scottish nationalist MP appealed yesterday for talks with Unite after general secretary Len McCluksey said the union could end its support for Labour.

Mr McCluksey upset Scottish Labour MPs when he told a Parliament press lobby lunch this week that SNP was “seen by many people as more radical.”

Angus MacNeil has now asked Mr McCluskey to rethink “putting money towards a party that’s not as progressive as the SNP.”

He told the Star: “The power game of which public school boy becomes prime minsiter at Westminster is a very false one.

“And as we’ve seen with Tony Blair it’s a power game that leads absolutely nowhere for people like Unite.”

The Na h-Eileanan an Ia MP called for “exploritory talks” ahead of September’s independence referendum.

“They might soon have an independent country in which to represent their members,” he said.

“One of the first things we’ve talks about after independence is renationalisation of the Royal Mail.

“I think we should at least talk and see what agreement we can reach.”
