THE US president’s oldest son released a series of emails yesterday detailing a Russian lawyer’s offer of incriminating material on election rival Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump Jr said he released the correspondence with music publicist Rob Goldstone “in order to be totally transparent.”
The emails confirm a New York Times report on Monday night that Mr Goldstone’s Russian client Emin Agalarov helped set up a meeting with lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in Moscow last year.
Ms Veselnitskaya claimed she had evidence that the US democratic national committee took illegal campaign funding from Russian donors — which turned out to be false.
Trump Jr tweeted sarcastically: “Obviously I’m the first person on a campaign to ever take a meeting to hear info about an opponent … went nowhere but had to listen.”
But Democratic representative Adam Schiff, who sits on the house intelligence committee, called it: “An offer by the Russian government to help interfere in the American election.”
