Netanyahu offers only iron fist to protesters

PRIME Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened today to adopt an iron-fist approach to an ongoing wave of Arab protests in Israel and the occupied West Bank, following a knife attack on a soldier in Tel Aviv.

He said that he would use all means available to stop weeks of unrest that have shaken East Jerusalem, northern Israel and Tel Aviv.
He suggested pursuing new measures, including demolishing the homes of protesters.

In a veiled threat toward Arab demonstrators in Israel and East Jerusalem, he said that they should consider moving to the West Bank or Gaza Strip.

“Believe me, we will put no difficulties in your path,” he said.

Mr Netanyahu spoke shortly after the stabbing. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said that a suspect from Nablus had been captured immediately afterwards.

Three other Israelis were stabbed later outside the illegal West Bank settlement of Alon Shvut, one of whom died. Their assailant was shot and wounded.
