MURDOCH hatemonger Kelvin MacKenzie tried to defend himself yesterday for his digusting attack on a Muslim reporter covering the terror attack in Nice.
He claimed it was “reasonable” to condemn Channel 4 News for having headscarfwearing reporter Fatima Manji report from the scene, saying it was a “religious statement” akin to wearing a crucifix.
Channel 4 News editor Ben de Pear said that both Ms Manji and ITN chief John Hardie have now complained to press regulator Ipso about Mr MacKenzie’s vile abuse.
Mr de Pear said ITN was aware its reporters were in the public eye but “cannot accept an employee being singled out on the basis of her religion. “We are not going to simply stand by when an employee is subject to an act of religious discrimination.”
Ms Manji herself attacked Mr MacKenzie — editor of the Sun when it published foul smears about the Hillsborough disaster — in the Liverpool Echo, saying that she “pissed on Kelvin MacKenzie’s apparent ambitions to force anyone who looks a little different off our screens, and I’ll keep doing it.”
