Hamilton officials call for help to preserve Braveheart Stakes status

£40,000 event in danger of a downgrading from listed position

Officials at Hamilton are calling for help from owners and trainers as they try to preserve the Listed status of the Braveheart Stakes.

The event, which will be worth £40,000 when it is run in May, is in danger of being downgraded as the ratings of the last two renewals have fallen short of the 100 mark which is imposed by the European Pattern Committee.

Hazel Peplinski, clerk of the course, said: “This early season highlight has been run as a Listed handicap at Hamilton Park since 2003 and early winners on its role of honour include the globe-trotting

Collier Hill, Allied Powers and Red Cadeaux, so it’s something of a shock that the contest is in very real risk of losing its black-type status.

“This is last chance saloon to drum up support for this rare Scottish Listed race and it’s one we need owners and trainers to give some real consideration to supporting given the consequences if they don’t.”
