BREXIT negotiations and the state opening of Parliament will both begin next week, the government confirmed yesterday.
European Commission chief negotiator Michel Barnier and Brexit Secretary David Davis agreed to start formal talks over Britain’s exit from the EU on Monday June 19.
The announcement ends speculation that talks could be delayed in light of last week’s hung Parliament.
Leader of the Commons Andrea Leadsom also revealed that the state opening of Parliament by the Queen will take place on Wednesday June 21.
The Queen’s speech was delayed to allow time for talks between Prime Minister Theresa May and the Democratic Unionist Party to prop up the minority Conservative government.
She also held talks with Irish parties in Westminster, amid fears the DUP alliance will undermine the peace process.
