THE International Olympic Committee (IOC) disqualified four more Russian athletes yesterday for doping at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The quartet of cross-country skiers — Yuliia Ivanova, Alexey Petukhov, Evgeniya Shapovalova and Maxim Vylegzhanin — have also been given life bans.

Of these, Vylegzhanin is the most significant as the 35-year-old claimed three silver medals at the Games, in the 50km freestyle, 4x10km relay and team sprint.

These sanctions are the product of forensic analysis conducted by a special commission into Russia’s state-sponsored doping at Sochi led by IOC member Denis Oswald and they bring the total number of Russians caught by its work to six.
