THREE unions are balloting on strike action in a dispute with a construction contractor working for Rotherham Council.
Unite, Unison and construction union Ucatt are all balloting their members over a range of industrial relations issues including sacking of employees, disciplinary procedures, vehicle checks having to be made in workers’ own time, storage of workers’ tools, unacceptable behaviour towards shop stewards, and threats to derecognise unions.
Rotherham Council uses construction firm Morrison Facilities Services to maintain and repair its social housing.
Ucatt regional secretary Rob Morris said the union had done everything possible to try to resolve these issues without resorting to industrial action.
However, he said: “Management has refused to recognise our concerns so we have had no option but to seek a mandate for strike action from our members.”
