Asgeir
In The Silence
(One Little Indian)
4 Stars
This fascinating new 10-track album by Asgeir comes out of the Icelandic trance-folk/acoustic music scene.
With it comes an exquisite sound and the sublime vocals of Asgeir Trausti Einarsson.
The tracks are packed with sensitive guitar and piano melodies, underscored by sublime percussive treatments.
In the spirit of things eclectic, more straightforward acoustic numbers like In The Silence give way to the deep-rooted ambience of Going Home, Higher and the wonderful Hide Your Head In The Snow.
While these provide the heady delights of emotional release Torrent and In Harmony are more anthem-like and King and Cross definitely move towards a dance groove.
Asgeir's first album in English, In The Silence is an inspirational journey for the temporally minded.
And, despite its soft veneers, it is gutsy and daring - a dynamic interface between ethereal lyrics, fine musicianship and great production.
