Michael Gove grilled on free schools spending

EDUCATION Secretary Michael Gove faced renewed allegations yesterday that spending on his pet free schools-project is spiralling out of control.

Mr Gove faced a Commons grilling amid widespread reports that his department was being torn apart by a Tory-Lib Dem squabble over access to the government’s meagre schools spending pot.

Labour shadow education secretary Tristram Hunt accused both parts of the coalition of raiding funds to pay for pet political projects.

Mr Hunt challenged Mr Gove over reports that he had taken £400 million extra from the basic needs programme “to fill a black hole in the free schools programme.”
