WOEFUL wage predictions published today would mean “misery without end,” the TUC said.
Pay analysts XpertHR found that most workers in the private sector will not get a rise bigger than inflation in 2015.
And one in 14 companies plans to freeze staff wages.
In a sign that pay is becoming increasingly arbitrary and precarious, researchers found some employers would give a rise to workers thought likely to be looking for another job — or to those they considered higher workers.
TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Britain needs, but is not getting, a pay rise. But without more spending power in people’s pockets it will be hard to sustain the recovery.
“Already the deficit is much greater than expected because the tax take is down. The economy is looking more fragile than even a few months ago.”
