FBU re-elects Matt Wrack as general secretary

FIREFIGHTERS have re-elected Matt Wrack to serve a fourth term as general secretary of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).

Mr Wrack, who won with an overwhelming 67 per cent of the vote – the highest proportion ever in an FBU general-secretary election – was first elected in 2005.

Mr Wrack said: “I want to thank FBU members for trusting me to continue as general secretary of our great union.

“It is a huge privilege and honour to serve firefighters for a fourth term.

“The last 15 years have been tumultuous and we have greater challenges still ahead.

“We face a far-right anti-union Tory majority government. They pose an existential threat to our union and our service — and we will fight them at every turn.

“Up and down the country, firefighters have made their views clear — that enough is enough.

“Years of pay restraint have left them struggling to make ends meet and all the while doing more work for free.

“I’m ready for the fight ahead and emboldened by the strong mandate to take forward our union’s policies.”
