AN OPEN letter to Glasgow City Council has called for a coronavirus response group to be dissolved and replaced by a radical grassroots framework for recovery.

The request to council leader Susan Aitken, published today in online magazine Bella Caledonia, asks for the people of Glasgow to be given the lead in a city recovery plan focused on wellbeing, justice and sustainability.

Its authors, a coalition of campaigners, have raised significant concerns regarding the Covid-19 Economic Recovery Group’s ability to deliver “the profound and radical changes needed” by the city. 

The letter demands a more ambitious remit for the group, with those in the community given the chance to participate. 

“There is a powerful sense that Glaswegians want and need something different,” it said. 

“Ensuring a just, fair and sustainable response to this crisis is the biggest responsibility and challenge we have collectively faced in decades.”

Glasgow City Council was approached for comment by the Star.
