Authorities did not comment on a possible motive for the attack.

The mass protests have been staged weekly since the start of the year.

MALI: At least 10 people were killed and dozens injured on Saturday in an attack on a complex near a military base in central Mali, said the army.

A car bomb exploded near the camp in Sevare in the Mopti region, Colonel Souleymane Dembele, spokesman for the Malian army, told reporters.

No-one claimed responsibility for the attack, but jihadis are known to operate in the area.

MYANMAR: A top election official in Myanmar, Sai Kyaw Thu, was fatally shot in his car in Yangon, the country’s commercial capital, in the latest attack attributed to militants opposed to military rule.

Mr Thu, deputy director-general of the military-appointed Union Election Commission, was shot multiple times on Saturday, according to the military’s information office, media reports and a statement of responsibility from an urban guerilla group called For The Yangon.
