LABOUR will not U-turn over the pensions triple-lock, Usdaw deputy general secretary Dave McCrossen insisted today.
Addressing doubts over Sir Keir Starmer’s pledge raised at the union’s annual conference, he said: “I personally have none: Keir has given a firm commitment on this and I believe that will be honoured.”
Delegate Tom Dunlop had moved a motion calling on the government to ensure that the pension service maintains the triple lock in the future.
He warned that although Labour and the Tories have said they would keep the triple-lock, on a general election year “can we trust them to keep their word?”
Delegates passed the motion.
Sir Keir this week matched the Tories’ promise to retain the state pension triple lock for at least five years if he enters Downing Street.
It means the state pensions increases each year in line with whichever is the highest of average annual earnings growth from May to July, consumer price index inflation in the year to September or 2.5 per cent.
