Every month, readers and supporters across Britain work to raise the £16,000 needed every month to keep the paper alive and campaigning - over and above sales income. Unlike other papers who have to listen to their corporate advertisers, the Star only listens to its readers.

They know that the Fund allows them to read an independent voice every day - one that doesn't have to toe the company line.

You can donate online, by credit card or by post. Simply click on the button below to donate online through PayPal or get in touch with Fund organiser Mac O'Connell by post or phone. Your paper depends on it!

WELL, here we are with a new size and a new-look Fund column.

And I am pleased to say that we are starting it off with a bang, thanks to the generosity of all who attended Saturday's event to mark our editor's 25th anniversary at the paper. It was good to see all of you who attended and it was even better when you thrust a total of £1,185 into my not-too-reluctant hands.

It's given the Fund an important boost in a difficult month and, because of your generous gifts, we stand a good chance of hitting the target. So, let's mark John Haylett's start of his 26th year with a big effort to reach that target and open a new era of continuous Fund successes to support the political victories that we are all aiming for.
