Elections: Edinburgh council's ex-leader loses seat

EmailThe former leader of Edinburgh Council has lost her seat, becoming one of the highest-profile Lib Dems casualties.
Jenny Dawe polled just 1,285 votes in Meadows/Morningside, more than 400 behind new SNP councillor Sandy Howat.
The Greens were the biggest beneficiary from the collapse in Ms Dawe's vote, seeing their candidate Melanie Main achieve a near tie with the ward's other Lib Dem candidate Paul Godzik, who has been re-elected.
Tory councillor Mark McInnes also kept his council seat, securing the greatest number of first preference votes.
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's mother was re-elected as a councillor and SNP candidate Joan Sturgeon was elected in the Irvine East ward in North Ayrshire as the only returning member.
Former Labour MSP Irene Oldfather was also elected in Irvine East. She lost her Cunninghame South seat in Holyrood to the SNP's Margaret Burgess in May last year.
