Queen spoke out against US invasion

Wednesday 06 June 2012

Though I am a staunch anti-monarchist and would welcome a socialist republic, I begrudgingly remember the queen condemning the 1983 US invasion of Grenada in her Christmas speech of that year.

Even though it was not a statement of solidarity with the deposed left-wing government of Maurice Bishop, it was more robustly critical of US foreign policy than any British government has managed to do since 1945.

Do any other readers remember this?
