Debate lacked real discussion on debt

Enraged with the state of this country the majority decided not to waste their time in voting believing that it didn't really matter what they did.

One minister quipped that "referendums are not really democratic" and another said we can vote again if they vote No.

Unfortunately, this writer was seriously disappointed with the level of debate.

Sinn Fein, dubbed by some the "real opposition," concentrated on austerity and the People Before Profit alliance failed miserably in its many different messages.

None of them wanted to speak about the elephant in the room - the debt crisis.

Along came Declan Ganley, the "referendum man." He spoke about the debt but he wanted us to vote No.

He wanted a deal done on the debt and if that was agreed by our German masters, he would vote Yes the next time.

I and many other people like Paul Krugman and Joseph Stiglitz think the debt should be cancelled and then we move on just like in other countries.

Unfortunately this won't happen now and the endless cycle of the state paying out money to banks, banks paying out money to states will go on and on and on.
