Tributes were paid today to street cleaner Piotr Mikewicz who was stabbed to death as he tried to stop a burglar in west London.
Mr Mikewicz was rushed to hospital by air ambulance after being attacked in Rylett Road, Shepherd's Bush, on Wednesday but died the following day.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council deputy leader Greg Smith called Mr Mikewicz "courageous" and said council staff were "deeply saddened.
"Piotr was a hard-working man, who was a friendly face to all who knew him on his regular beat," he said.
The Metropolitan Police said that they were using "all of our available resources" in a bid to apprehend the killer.
