Met charges man with killing heroic cleaner

Sunday 02 September 2012

Police in London have charged a 30-year-old man with the murder of a "hard-working" street cleaner stabbed to death while trying to foil a burglary.

Piotr Mikiewicz was attacked on Wednesday afternoon in Rylett Road, Shepherd's Bush, west London, and was taken to hospital by air ambulance but died the next day.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman confirmed today that Roger Philip Buckingham, of Bentworth Road, Shepherd's Bush, has been charged with his murder and will appear at Westminster magistrates' court tomorrow.

He was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon, theft of a motor vehicle and burglary at an address in Rylett Road on Wednesday.

Two other men and three women who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender on Thursday have been bailed until October.
