New Labour has failed Carlisle - time for it to support nationalisation

Monday 03 September 2012

Why don't Labour see sense and commit to renationalising the railways? It used to be their policy, it's widely supported by the public and would cost us considerably less than the present rip-off.

In the NHS, the PFI fiasco continues to drag down Cumberland Infirmary's front-line staff and services and yet it was Labour who landed us with the huge PFI mortgage for the hospital.

Personally, I'd like to see three things from Carlisle's Labour Party.

Firstly an apology for clinging on to the rotten privatisation of the railways that have cost thousands of jobs over the years in Carlisle and for the PFI deal at the hospital.

Secondly, what is the stance of the Labour-controlled council on these issues, as the current silence is predictably deafening.

And lastly, since Labour are in the midst of selecting a candidate for the Carlisle seat, where do our prospective MPs stand on rail privatisation and the discredited PFI scheme at the Cumberland Infirmary.

I expect a long wait for any answer.
