Coward Clegg ducks protests

Friday 14 September 2012

Cowardly Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg faced further ridicule when he chose to duck for cover behind a cricket sightscreen to avoid trade union protesters as he arrived for a meeting at Trent Bridge.

The Lib Dem leader was speaking at a meeting of party colleagues from Nottingham at the cricket ground on Thursday night but decided to go in through a back door when he saw three dozen people demonstrating outside.

Organisers wheeled out a sightscreen - usually used to help batsmen see the ball - to obscure the entrance so he could sneak in, according to witnesses

The demo was organised by the local committee of public servants' union PCS and supported by Nottingham trades council.

PCS Midlands official Andrew Lloyd said: "The fact that Clegg refused to face the protesters speaks volumes about how confident he feels about his government's policies."
