Sergio Martinez defeats Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr

BOXING: Sergio Martinez suffered two final-round knockdowns before holding on to defeat rival Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr in a thrilling fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Martinez (50-2-2), 37, retained the WBC middleweight title on an unanimous points decision, handing Chavez (46-1-1), 26, his first professional defeat.

Elsewhere Saul Alvarez retained his WBC light-middleweight title, stopping challenger Josesito Lopez in five rounds. Alvarez's record improves to 41-0, while Lopez slips to 30-5.
