Amnesty getting it all wrong on Pussy Riot

EmailCongratulations to Diana Johnstone for her timely article (M Star September 14) regarding the puerile anti-Russian mask-sending campaign of Amnesty International and the breathtaking arrogance of the internet organisation Avaaz.
As someone who was there at the beginning of Amnesty International - I was secretary and translator to Bertrand Russell who sent hundreds of letters to governments all over the world trying to stop real injustices - I am appalled at the degeneration of this once-dignified organisation.
The prime rule instilled in me and anyone else handling such letters was to treat the recipients, whatever our own views, with utmost respect.
I was so relieved to read Diana's article.
