A secondary school headmaster who resigned after his salary details were made public had "misused his position" and helped bring "the reputation of the college into disrepute," Devon's Local education authority claimed today.
Steve Maddern quit as executive head of West Exe Technology College in Exeter after it emerged he was being was paid £152,211 per year - £10,000 more than the Prime Minister.
Details of Mr Maddern's salary emerged when the local authority, Devon County Council, sent auditors to examine the accounts of the school. Following their findings, Mr Maddern was suspended by the school's governors.
