Communists warn Israeli provocations are undermining regional peace

EmailA world-wide alliance of 65 communist and workers' parties warned today that the supine acceptance of Israeli provocations over Iran by the EU and the US was posing a very real threat to peace in the region.
The lack of any restraining voice from the two world powers is encouraging the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to feel free to promote openly belligerent policies, the consequences of which would inflame the entire Middle East and jeopardise global peace, the parties warned.
Statements by Mr Netanyahu that Israel is prepared to wage a pre-emptive attack on Iran before the US election could drag the region into a war with unimaginable consequences.
All disputes in the region, they said, should be resolved through negotiation based on the UN Charter and respect for the sovereignty of nations.
The parties ended by declaring support for the struggle of the Iranian working class, the Tudeh Party of Iran and all progressive and democratic forces.
