Welcome to the Morning Star

Sunday 30 September 2012

Welcome to delegates at the Labour Party conference who are receiving a complimentary Morning Star every day courtesy of sponsoring unions.

To anyone picking up the Star for the first time, we're the daily paper of the left, owned by our readers, and the paper which supports unions and their members.

You can meet our hard-working circulation and campaigns staff at stand 5 in the main conference venue.

And don't forget our fringe meeting at lunchtime today in the auditorium in the conference venue from 12 noon.

Speakers will include Unite's Len McCluskey, GMB's Paul Kenny, FBU's Matt Wrack, Katy Clark MP and Billy Hayes of the CWU - which has agreed to become the latest union to affiliate to the paper and take up a seat on the management committee. We very much look forward to working with Billy and his comrades.

New Star editor Richard Bagley will be on hand to meet delegates as well. Carolyn Jones will be in the chair at what promises to be another highlight in the conference season.

We are in discussions with other unions about taking out shareholdings in the People's Press Printing Society, the co-op which owns the Star, and we hope to report more positive news in the future.

Tony Burke is Morning Star trade union co-ordinator.
