I now know why parakeets adorn my London garden

Sunday 07 October 2012

I am all a flutter. I am so grateful to Peter Frost whose wildlife article about "birds on the broads" was an interesting read (M Star October 5).

I am even more thankful that he mentioned something that has puzzled me for some time about the dozens of perky parakeets that daily swoop around and feed off my bird table.

I knew there was an abundance of parakeets but I never knew why they were in my garden.

But Peter Frost explained everything - that they were imported when film-makers needed some and that they were then released into the wilds of south-west London at Kew Gardens, which are about four miles from me as the crow flies.

Peter has revealed what has been up until now a fascinating mystery.

The parks of Hounslow are blessed with these birds in the same way as I feel gifted by their presence in my garden.

Ours is a very worthwhile paper in so many ways. Thanks to Peter and thanks to the Morning Star.
