Nathan Cleverly set for Stateside defence

Welsh fighter to take on Ryan Coyne
Monday 08 October 2012

Boxing: WBO light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly will defend his title against US fighter Ryan Coyne in Los Angeles on November 10, subject to receiving approval from the sanctioning body.

Both fighters are unbeaten and the bout will form part of the undercard for Abner Mares’s WBC super-bantamweight title defence at the Staples Centre.

The fight will be Cleverly’s fourth defence of his title and the first outside Britain with the 25-year-old looking forward to establishing a name for himself in the United States.

“I’m absolutely delighted for the opportunity, I’m really look forward to it,” he said.

“It is a great opportunity for me to make the next step in my career.

“The timing is perfect, I think I have made a few defences of my title and now it is time for me to go over to the States and get some exposure and make a statement.”
