Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei hit out at European states for their "foolish" backing of crippling sanctions against his country.
Demonstrations over the plunging value of its currency the rial have rocked the theocratic regime in recent days.
US-led sanctions which have led to countries across the world halting purchases of Iranian oil are the main driving force behind the economic instability.
Khamenei admitted today that the measures brought in over his country's nuclear power programme "may create problems," but added: "Your problem is far more complicated than ours."
He accused European states of "sacrificing themselves for the sake of America."
