Occupy LSX announces anniversary events

Friday 12 October 2012

Activists said today that they are to mark the first anniversary of protests by the Occupy movement against social and economic inequality, which led to a tented village pitched outside St Paul's Cathedral in London.

A series of events will be held this weekend and on Monday, the date last year on which demonstrations were launched across the world.

Hundreds of people camped outside St Paul's after they were prevented from entering nearby Paternoster Square, where the London Stock Exchange is located, and remained there for four months.

"One year on, the impact of Occupy has rippled across society, and the initiatives that sprang from the energy of those St Paul's days is multiplying," said Laura Taylor, an Occupy London supporter.
