Heather Watson makes history in Japan

Tennis: Heather Watson became the first Briton to win a WTA Tour singles title in 24 years, with success in the HP Open in Osaka today.

The 20-year-old saved four match points against Chang Kai-chen of Taiwan before emerging victorious 7-5 5-7 7-6 (7/4).

She said: “Britain has been breaking quite a few records recently, so I’m happy I could break another one today.”
