Campaigners step up plans for active union base

Tuesday 16 October 2012

Activists announced plans today to step up trade union activity in West Yorkshire to fight off coalition attacks on services.

Calder Valley campaigners have already established a Calderdale Save Our Services group, which has organised a coach to the TUC A Future that Works march and rally in London on Saturday.

And now they plan to re-establish Calderdale Trades Council, organising a launch meeting for later this month.

Activist Tracey Howton said: "We believe that in the current political and economic climate it is more important than ever that trade unionists work together in their local community to resist privatisation and cuts to our public services and to promote the important role of trade unions in the workplace and in communities."

The launch meeting takes place at the YMCA in Crossley Street, Halifax, at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, October 24.
