Overworked and underpaid lecturers are taking strike action tomorrow over plans to increase already heavy staff workloads.
The University of East London (UEL) has proposed a new workload policy that would mean more teaching, marking and assessment for lecturers - many of whom already work excessive hours, the University and College Union (UCU) said.
The union has branded UEL's proposed policy "untenable and unjust" and argued it lacks transparency and would leave employees at the mercy of individual managers.
UCU regional official Greg Barnett said: "These lecturers are already working some of the longest hours in British universities and further increasing their workloads will lead to higher levels of stress and sickness, damaging the quality of education for students."
