Good luck to Rob in by-elections

Thursday 18 October 2012

I am very pleased to learn that Communist Party general secretary Rob Griffiths (M Star September 7) is intending to contest the pending parliamentary by-election in Cardiff.

His key demands for public ownership, taxing the rich and building more council homes chime with those seeking to build a new left party.

Can we expect to see the CP standing in more than a token number of seats at the general election?

Those of us on the left who hold the view that an incoming Labour government will follow a very similar programme of austerity owe it to working people to spell out an alternative.

Working in partnership with those seeking to put together an alternative could push Labour to the left, but more importantly lay the foundations of a broad inclusive coalition as we have seen in France, Germany, Denmark and Greece.
