Follow Germany's example to avoid climate catastrophe

Friday 19 October 2012

Derek Wall in his article A future that works for our world (M Star October 15) has given warning about the climatic destruction of the planet that may even now be too late to stop.

The planet is being atmospherically polluted and globally warmed, through human activity, without any consideration of the consequences.

The shortsightedness of British politicians, as well as the self-deniers, has resulted in Britain lagging far behind Germany in the construction of renewable energy sources.

Yet Britain should be among the leaders in this field. Why are renewable energy sources providing only 2-3 per cent of our energy needs while in Germany they account for 25 per cent and increasing?

On my recent tour of Germany I could not be other than impressed by the number of wind turbine farms that I saw.

As I passed one, there was always another on the horizon and when that was passed, another came into view. And so it went on. Nor did they by any means provide a blot on the landscape as their appearance was very acceptable.

In addition to wind farms there were also solar enery farms. These consisted of arrays of solar panels covering 2-5 acres.

I have never seen a solar energy farm in Britain though, though perhaps somewhere they do exist.

In Germany however they are relatively commonplace. It all goes to show that we have politicians with the wrong ideas.

For Britain to play its part in saving the planet, these politicians really have to be removed as keeping them will lead to disaster.
