North Korean defectors floated balloons carrying tens of thousands of anti-Pyongyang leaflets into North Korea today, eluding police who had disrupted an earlier launch attempt.
The government had banned political groups from entering a border area where they planned to launch anti-Pyongyang leaflets into North Korea today.
North Korea's military warned last week that it would take action if South Korean activists carried through with their plan to fly balloons carrying the propaganda across the border.
South Korean police said they sent hundreds of officers to seal off roads and prevent activists and other people from gathering at the launch site.
But later in the day some of the activists, mostly North Korean defectors, moved to another site near the border that was not guarded by police and carried out the launch of the balloons.
Official inflation figures understate the real extent of rising costs, but even the government's own CPI scheme lays bare the ongoing misery for working people and those dependent on benefits.
