Toxic Tories' Tudor poor laws

Wednesday 31 October 2012

I recently attended a presentation by the Department for Work and Pensions on the universal credit benefit and personal independence payment. I came away from the meeting angry and depressed.

Working in the mental health field I come across people who find it difficult to cope and the introduction of these benefits will add to the stress and anxiety of this vulnerable group.

I was struck by the similarities to the Tudor poor laws but again this would be in keeping with the views of the toxic Tories.

The capping of rent benefits will have a huge impact and when this was pointed out one of the speakers from the DWP suggested that "they can always move to something cheaper."
