Arsenal Ladies 2 FFC Turbine Potsdam 1: Ogimi takes shine off Gunners win with late wonder goal

Laura Harvey's team take slender lead into Champions League last-16 second leg
Thursday 01 November 2012

Women's football: Goals from Katie Chapman and Ellen White gave Arsenal Ladies a slender advantage today in the Champions League last-16 tie against FFC Potsdam.

However a late wonder goal from Yuki Ogimi in the first leg at Boreham Wood gave the Germans a valuable away goal and took the shine off what was a fine performance by the Women’s Super League champions.

The tie is now finely poised ahead of next week’s return tie in Germany.

Arsenal had a glut of chances but eventually took the lead on 70 minutes when Chapman scored from a Rachel Yankey corner.

Laura Harvey’s team doubled their lead on 83 minutes, White racing onto Kim Little’s through ball before finishing past keeper Alyssa Naeher.

Ogimi, however, pegged Arsenal back at the death with a spectacular long-range volley.
