The Unite union slammed North Lanarkshire Council today for asking locals which services to slash and which jobs to cuts.
Regional industrial officer Tam Connarty said councillors were playing the "worst kind of populist politics" and had "bottled out of dealing with the big issues they're paid handsomely to do."
The council is looking to cut its budget by £73 million and get rid of 1,600 workers.
Official inflation figures understate the real extent of rising costs, but even the government's own CPI scheme lays bare the ongoing misery for working people and those dependent on benefits.
